Pigeon in Power
A pigeon selling money to humans, painted on my brother's old skateboard deck.
this work
In this work, I used my brother's old skateboard deck as a medium. The research began with exploring the power balances between animals and humans, focusing on how I could switch their traditional roles. Usually, humans hold the power compared to pigeons. To illustrate this, I incorporated a 'Halk Ekmek' stand into the box held by the pigeon. Halk Ekmek is a well-known municipal initiative in İstanbul that provides affordable bread to the public. While pigeons chase bread, humans chase money. My initial idea was to have the pigeon-person sell money in exchange for bread, a composition that placed the pigeon in a position of power. Material-wise, I used white spray paint for the deck's background, finalizing the details with acrylic markers and acrylic paint. Acrylic markers allowed me to work freely while ensuring the medium would adhere permanently to the skateboard.
